THE HAVEN

WHO WE ARE

The Haven serves as a central community hub to address issues related to substance use and disadvantage in Stirling.

OUR PURPOSE

The Haven operates as a community hub supporting issues around disadvantage and substance use. It has developed strong relationships - with families, single parents, people experiencing many social disadvantages, substance users and with the local primary school. It offers a range of activities such as Homework Mentoring Scheme, Parent & Toddler Group, Messy Church, and groups to help people learn and strengthen life-skills, and it partners with other third sector organisations to run a children’s summer holiday club. It is also used as a drop-in advice centre.

Haven staff as well as providing in-house support, make referrals to other sources of help such as Stirling Foodbank, and to wellbeing services at the Life Centre. Drop-in Recovery Cafes have been established in collaboration with other third sector recovery groups and family support groups. The Haven is also used as a base for a growing number of information and networking meetings between other third sector organisations. We are recognised as a place where anyone in the community can turn for advice, practical help and support. We have one part time support worker within the Haven, who again works with other professionals and a variety of volunteers.

CHILDREN

The Haven has developed a close relationship with Allan’s Primary School, offering support in many ways over a number of years. One example of this is the Homework Club at the Haven which runs weekly in term time for Primary children. Children benefit from a peaceful place to concentrate on their homework, and receive support and encouragement from a volunteer mentor, as well as a snack.

A Parent and Toddler group runs at the Haven weekly, offering a safe and friendly space and resources for play, alongside informal support for families and young children.
